【Report of June 20th】Tenkuu no ai ni haneruya chigo no uta
There is a small vegetable field in the corner of the temporary school area for Yumenomori. Even though it is called a "vegetable field", it is a small area that is just plants in planters. It's not bad, but for the children, it's a splendid vegetable garden.
Eggplants, tomatoes, green peppers, green beans, cucumbers, and potatoes are all growing inside the planters.
Taking care of seedlings is the role of the juniors. In order to get a good harvest, they do their best to water and fertilse every day.
"Ah, the tomatoes have grown again!" "The eggplants have grown a small flower!"
If you take a breath and look up, you will see a clear blue sky.
A large field has been prepared on the grounds for the new school for Yumenomori. We quietly dreamed of children running around and building a sweat in the fields.
Asagao no omoi ten made waraigao
(A morning glory, a smiling face)
The first grade students grow "morning glories" along with the vegetables. Today we are all observing them. You can not only see them, but you can touch them, and smell them. You can experience the vine in many ways. The morning glories grown from seeds grow lot bigger and they have gotten very attached to them.
"The new leaves are rough." "Look! The leaves look like a bird here!"
The photo above is one of them. A slightly smiling face is drawn from seeing the tall morning glory. The child must have seen the spirit of the morning glory playing inside.
Noutan no enogu sayakani toki wo koe (The old shades of paint transcend time clearly)
Arts and crafts are very important to second grade students. Today they made works using paints before making an image into a painting. They diluted some colours with water, and mixed others. "Mountains aren't only green, so I mixed in some blue." "If you add some water to blue paint, it looks like the real sea."
They tried to draw a lot of their favourite things and express the theme the "Ancient World", and its quite exciting. At the end, we took a picture with their works in hand. They are true artists.
Tenkuu no ai ni haneruya chigo no uta (Jumping into the indigo coloured sky, the song of children)
Do you remember? Around the time of Golden Week, we planted some sweet potato seeds together with members of Okuma's Agricultural Committee. At that time, the children were enthusiastic, saying "We will raise them carefully!"
It's been a month since then…
In the busyness of daily life, we forgot about the field thats not too far away.
"At this rate, we'll break our promise…"
Hurry up! The 2nd and 3rd grade students made the quick decision to go see them. In the afternoon, we decided to go see how the sweet potatoes were growing. Loudly they said "Let's go!"
Seeing the sweet potatoes for the first time in a long time… are they growing well?
We arrived at the field with our hearts pounding.
"Where is our field?"
Weeds were all over the field, and we didn't know where the sweet potatoes were. We were at a loss for words at the sight of the field being completely different. We pushed through the grass, and moved forwards…
"Hey! They're fine!"
While apologising for our unkindness towards the sweet potatoes, everyone tried to come up with a strategy to see if there is anything they could do.
"Maybe some water?" a student said as they put their hand in the soil.
"It's damp enough."
The wind feels great on our sweaty bodies. The air smells earthy. A song is born naturally as our hands move dilligently.
"Minna mo iina runrunrun…"
It's a Yumenomori song. The song gradually spread and became a big chorus before we knew it. We felt so much better, and the chorus under the blue sky continued until we came back to school.
