【Report for June 19th】 Growing up healthy
The contents off the video above are of the cooking class conducted for the 6th grade home economics class, which we summarised in this video, made by the children and a teacher. Please take a look!
Despite the rainy season, it was a slightly chilly, but sunny day. It was just the right temperature, not too hot to play outside.
During lunch break, the children talk with the ALT, Mr. Ben, in front of the staff room. Mr. Ben, who knows a lot about a lot of things, is a popular person! This is a great opportunity to acquire natural English conversation skills.
In the 2nd grade planters, the leaves have grown thick. What kind of leaves are they?
In the second grade, they were thinning out the leaves of the potatoes in life sciences. Mr Aita, the school concierge who gave us the potato seeds, taught us how to thin out the potato plants leaves, leaving only the healthy leaves after removing the unnecessary ones. Mr. O seemed worried, "Is it really okay to remove these?" They did a lot of watering too.
"My leaves are yellow" said Ms. K. Another teacher advised her that they may not be getting enough nutrients, so we decided to give them some fertiliser. They fertilised the other vegetables, not the cucumbers though. The children were surprised when Mr. Aita showed them a picture of the field of vegetables he had grown himself and said "Healthy cucumbers should be green."
We pray that the energy of the yellowed vegetables will recover!!
At the end of class, we talked about todays news of the vegetables: "The cucumbers are prickly and have thorns," "You've got baby edamame," and "Six tomatoes have grown." I can't wait to see what the next vegetables will be ☺︎!
The 3rd grade students delivered a thank you letter that we all helped make to the master of "Rainbow", who helped us make strawberry jam the other day.
The children repeatedly watch videos of jam making on their iPads. We are looking forward to the next time we can make something together again.
