【A daily record】Library committee members who love books
Hello everyone.
Today, I would like to introduce the library committee members who are making the Okuma Municipal Learning Center Yumenomori Library a great success.
Many books are lined up around the Book Plaza, and books are a very familiar part of the children's school life at Yumenomori, but it is the children who are volunteering to be library committee members who support the library every day.
There is no such thing as a "library committee" at Yumenomori. The children work independently every day during their lunch break because they love books and love library-related work.
They work together and do their best
Even though there is no book sommelier (librarian) this year, the children themselves think about and discuss what is needed and carry out the activities they need, and they keep the library in order every day.
As a library manager for the first time this year, I am very inspired by the children's enthusiasm and initiative. Of course, with such a large library, there are times when adults need to be involved in systems and the like, but I think it's no exaggeration to say that "it's run by the kids themselves."
The other day, the kids said, "We want to read to the kids at the kindergarten!" So they decided on the books and dates themselves, and made an appointment with the kindergarten together with a designer to read to them.
"I was so nervous!"
"Maybe next time we should use bigger books so they're easier to read?"
After finishing the readings, the four of them immediately reflected on the experience.
I felt a sense of determination to work harder, too.
