【Daily Record】 A fruitful autumn!

[1st and 2nd grade Living Environment Studies class]
We harvested the potatoes we have been growing since spring. The potatoes grown in the planters are about the same size as the children's fists. This time we decided to make potato chips using the potatoes we all grew. It looks like it will be a memorable first dish to make in the home economics room.

We all have fond memories of the harvest festival with Yamasuke Farm last year when we were in Aizu. It would be great if the children could grow and harvest their own food, this however is no longer as commonplace these days.

We washed the potatoes we grew carefully.

Another thing we harvested in today's Living Environmental Studies class was morning glory seeds. The morning glories that they had been growing at home during summer vacation finally withered, leaving the baton to the next generation. There was a time when they became shriveled because they didn't have enough water, and we all worried about it. While the children were collecting seeds, they learned more about morning glories than the designers, saying things like, "You can get more seeds from morning glories that have a lot of flowers!" and "Don't take the green seeds yet!" What they will do with these morning glory seeds is still a secret.

We took a picture as a memory of the harvest.

[The 1st to 3rd grade students handed out flyers]
They handed out flyers yesterday and today. Today they walked around the town with everyone from the Social Welfare Council. While handing out flyers, local residents served delicious watermelon, and the children, who were supposed to be full from the school lunch, were treated to a big feast.

Very delicious watermelon! Thank you!

It's already autumn according to the calendar, but the lingering heat still seems to be harsh. While handing out flyers, the children became exhausted from the heat of the sun. The members of the Social Welfare Council provided items to cool their bodies and they regained their energy. They were able to start walking again.

Everyone in the Social Welfare Council, thank you very much!

[Yumenomori Art and Crafts Club]
A caterpillar that sits in her pocket like a kangaroo and its baby. Surprisingly, this caterpillar is not a stuffed animal, but a pencil case for holding writing utensils.

They are taking a class together.

The owner of this caterpillar pencil case is a master of craftsmanship. She made a "caterpillar house" for this caterpillar. It is a large house that can fit the caterpillar's large body. The house is made from a cardboard frame and denim fabric, and is sewn together with thread for an authentic look. The decorations on it are very detailed, and the "Caterpillar House" sign is painted in the same two colors as the caterpillar and even has tiny antennae. "I love making things," she says in a friendly manner, and the high level of perfection in her work is impressive.

Caterpillar house, I want a lot of people to see it.

There is another artist in 5th grade. During our lunch break today, she drew a portrait of a Yumenomori Designer in her personal sketchbook. Her hairstyle is detailed, and you'll be amazed at how many possibilities there are, such as changing her hair colour and the way her eyes are drawn little by little. It's so wonderful to see them enjoying drawing every day, saying things like, "I've been getting into this way of drawing lately" or "My friend taught me this."

Very cute portrait!

The art the 6th grade students made is a creative activity using tape and a camera. They're using the corner of the classroom and making some minor adjustments. What exactly are they making?

It doesn't look like a three-dimensional object…

When we saw their completed work, we were surprised to see that the pieces of tape that had been attached piece by piece had turned into a smiley face. This work, which can only be seen from a certain position, is a study in perspective. Although the pieces were not three-dimensional, they seemed to float there, giving the impression of Trompe-l'oeil art.

We took a picture of the art for our memories.
