【Report for June 8th】Meeting x Meeting x Meeting
Today, Yumenomori had a more fulfilling day than usual. We met many new wonderful guests, shared some wonderful memories, and made many new ones too. We grew using these new memories like nourishment. Thank you very much to all the new guests who came to Yumenomori today.
Yesterday, a designer discovered a strange shaped cart in the parking lot of Okuma. When they asked the two people who stood nearby, the designer was surprised to learn that they had pulled this cart by foot, and said they were in the middle of a trip around Japan. Huh? Huh? What do you mean? The staff who were there were intrigued by the surprising story that was hard to believe. We wanted the children of Yumenomori to hear the fun stories of such unique people! Thinking that it was not possible, we asked them to visit the school, but they did!
Then came today. The children who came to school were already excited about the mysterious cart parked next to the school. "Huh, what is this?" "A slipper shop?" "Theres a lot of tools!"
The names of our special guests are "Shoki-san" and "Aki-san". They left their hometown in Hyogo prefecture last year in February, and they aim to go around Japan. Pulling their cart, which has a total weight of 250kg or more, and went north following the Sea of Japan. They went around Hokkaido, and this time are now going down the Pacific coast. This alone is surprising, but there is another goal they both have. That is to pick up garbage on the way and aim for zero garbage in Japan. All of us were simply impressed by the thoughts and actions of these two amazing people. The children asked countless questions. "Where are you going to sleep?" "What are you going to eat?" "Aren't you going to fight?" In the future, the two of them will continue to travel south along the coast, and it will take about three more years to achieve their goals. If you wish to learn more about them, please search "Futari-Aruki" on Instagram.
In addition to classes, we picked up trash in the area together, had lunch, and even played tag. We are really thankful to them. We sincerely pray for their safety on their journey, and for the achievement of their goals.
In second period, we made Tanabata (Weave) decorations with some local people. First, we introduced ourselves with original Yumenomori business cards. After that, we asked the local people to teach us how to make Tanabata, and we cooperated with them to make the "rings" that will be the bones of the Tanabata decorations.
"This is how it works…" "It's faster to combine them, than do them alone." We all devised, cooperated, and completed a lot of ring making. Cheerfully, we celebrated with the locals, giving each other a high-five. The number of Yumenomori friends has increased again!
In the afternoon, we made strawberry jam and strawberry milk. We learned how to make both in "Rainbow", being taught directly from the master of Okuma's popular restaurant. They were made with plenty of sweet strawberries, a local specialty of Okuma.
"It smells so sweet!" "I can use a kitchen knife at home." "Is the sweetness just right?" Taste-testing is an important part of the process, but isnt that a little too much testing?…
At the end, we made a toast with strawberry milk! We packed a lot of jam as souvenirs, and took them home. Our homework is to share everyones delicious hard work with their families. Thank you so much, Rainbow master!!
